Congregational Services Assistant
The Congregation of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan is seeking applications for the position of Congregational Services Assistant. Â This full-time role, based in Glebe, Sydney NSW, is ideal for a highly adaptable, multi-skilled worker capable of performing a broad range of administrative and hospitality responsibilities in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
Job Description
When Archbishop John Bede Polding founded the Sisters of the Good Samaritan in 1857, he chose this name because he firmly believed that their work was about being neighbour to the poor and destitute women and children of Sydney. For over 160 years, the Sisters of the Good Samaritan have been inspired by a simple yet powerful story, the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). They take as a living instruction Jesus’ command to go and show compassion, go and ‘be neighbour’ to those most in need.
Our mission and values are based on the Good Samaritan Parable and the Rule of St Benedict.
About the Role
In this position, you will hold a broad range of administrative and hospitality responsibilities. The position demands the ability to coordinate competing priorities, maintain accurate records, and provide responsive support across multiple operational areas. You will demonstrate strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgement, while confidently handling hospitality duties, administrative tasks, and communication coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Reception administration such as phone, room bookings, mail, etc
- Be the first point of contact for Sisters and internal and external patrons
- Coordination of hospitality for events, meetings, etc
- Event/function related administration
- Administration tasks associated with finance and records
- Attend to service requests for Sisters
- Administration support to the Congregational Services Manager as required
- Implementation of applicable policy and protocol
Tools You’ll Use
- Microsoft 365 – experience required
- Zoom
- Function Room equipment such as microphones, screen sharing, etc
About You
Success in this role relies on a proactive, service-oriented approach, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and the flexibility to support diverse Congregational needs, ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of daily operations.
Skills and Experience
- Appreciation for, and demonstrated alignment with, the life and mission, spirituality and ethos of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan
- Ability to manage a diverse workload
- Experience in record-keeping (digital and paper)
- Experience in the administration and coordination of hospitality
- Some travel interstate and within NSW will be required
- Professional manner and presentation
- A high level of written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously
- Demonstrated initiative
- Demonstrated ability to act with discretion and confidentiality
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, and an ability to prioritise
