Are you an experienced chef or kitchen manager looking to use your skills somewhere that genuinely matters?
St Canice’s Kitchen is seeking a hands-on Kitchen Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of our community kitchen in Elizabeth Bay.
For many years St Canice’s has provided good food, hospitality and community to people experiencing homelessness, disadvantage and social isolation. We are now entering an exciting new stage, including the redevelopment of our kitchen and hospitality facilities.
We are looking for someone who knows how to run a good kitchen — food safety, cooking, menus, stock, ordering, cleanliness, efficiency and people — but who also understands that hospitality is ultimately about people rather than simply producing meals.
Reporting to our General Manager – Parish & Kitchen, you will lead the day-to-day kitchen operation, work alongside staff and volunteers, oversee food safety and help us produce nutritious and appealing meals using a combination of donated, rescued and purchased food.
This is not a desk job. We want someone who enjoys being in the kitchen, can cook, can organise people and can create a calm and positive environment for guests, staff and volunteers.
We are looking for:
- Commercial kitchen experience;
- excellent food-safety knowledge;
- Food Safety Supervisor qualification or willingness to obtain it immediately;
- experience supervising staff and ideally volunteers;
- strong organisational and stock-management skills
- ideally 3–5+ years’ professional cookery experience; and
- warmth, maturity and a genuine commitment to treating people experiencing disadvantage with dignity and respect.
St Canice’s Kitchen is a ministry of St Canice’s Catholic Parish. Applicants do not need to be Catholic, but must be comfortable supporting and working within the mission and ethos of the Parish.

Remuneration: [salary packaging is available ] + superannuation, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
