About Us
The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney (“the Archdiocese”) covers a large area of Greater Sydney, from the Eastern Suburbs, north to Mosman and the lower north shore, west to Austral and south to the Shire.
As well as nurturing the spiritual lives of hundreds of thousands of Catholics, the Archdiocese supports thousands more in the local community through health and aged care, education, welfare and community services.
The Chancery is the administrative office of the Archdiocese and provides administration and accounting support to the parishes and agencies of the Archdiocese. The Chancery is based at St Marthas, Leichhardt.
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Administration Officer to join our team to cover a 12-month parental leave vacancy, until September next year.
About the Role
Working closely with the Chancellor, Vicar General and Judicial Vicar, you will play a key role in providing administrative support to maintain the clerical, administrative, and marriage documentation of the Chancery.
Your responsibilities will include preparing faculties documents and celebret letters; filing of general and clergy records; archiving of files; assisting with the collation of annual statistical information; maintaining records of all outgoing mail; responding to telephone and email enquiries; maintaining records of clergy Working With Children Checks; assisting with the preparation and distribution of clergy appointment letters; monitoring the general Chancery inbox; and triaging emails to relevant departments..
The role is full-time for a 12-month period, to cover parental leave and is based at St Martha’s, Leichhardt, with the opportunity to work from home up to two days per week.
About You
You will be an experienced Administration Officer with a can-do attitude, professional manner and presentation, and exceptional communication skills.
As the ideal candidate, you will meet the following Key Requirements:
- Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience
- High level communication skills, particularly a confident and professional telephone manner, and excellent written communication skills
- Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications
- Proactive and organised, with attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clergy, colleagues and others
- A knowledge of Church structures and processes and an understanding of the procedures and requirements associated with marriage within the Catholic Church (desirable).
