ABOUT THE ORGANISATION 

The Catholic Archdiocese of Perth has 106 Parishes and circa 15 Agencies within its boundaries. Each parish is led by a priest appointed by the Archbishop of Perth. Agencies are managed by a Director and deliver a wide variety of ministries, including faith enrichment and formation, liturgy, safeguarding, disability and mental health support, counselling, Aboriginal outreach, marriage and family education services, homelessness support, justice, and ecology education programmes, training courses and employment support, migrant and refugee services, and prison chaplaincy. The Office of the Archbishop (OOA) and the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth Administration Centre (CAPAC) are situated at Griver House, 249 Adelaide Terrace, Perth.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

As an Advisor, Parish Workplace Safety, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of safety within the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. This position ensures compliance with Work Health & Safety (WHS) legislation, support risk management initiatives, and provides expert advice on workplace safety protocols across the Parishes within the boundaries of the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth.

Building trust, maintaining confidentiality, and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders are crucial aspects of this role.

Key Responsibilities include: 

  • Compliance & Advisory – Ensure compliance with the Work Health & Safety Act 2020, conduct risk assessments and advise on workplace safety measures.
  • Framework Implementation – Develop and implement proactive safety policies and frameworks in accordance with the WHS Act and regulations.
  • Safety Inspections & Incident Reporting – Conduct regular workplace safety audits, maintain safety records, coordinate necessary repairs, and escalate notifiable incidents to WorkSafe.
  • Internal Reportings – Provide all information, updates and advice on WHS and compile relevant reports for Management Meetings.
  • Training & Emergency Planning – Facilitate safety drills, develop safety resources and protocols for the organisation and provide training on safety procedures.
  • Safety Leadership – Role model safe work practices ensuring adherence to safety policy and procedures.
  • Stakeholder management – Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance workplace safety culture.

ABOUT YOU

Ideal Skills 

Have:

  • Diploma or Certificate IV in Workplace Health & Safety
  • Minimum five years experience in a similar role
  • Extensive knowledge of the Work Health & Safety Act 2020 and stay abreast of any legislation updates.  
  • Demonstrated experience conducting safety audits, workplace inspections, and compliance reporting
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to work with individuals at varying levels of understanding and experience.
  • Self-assured and proactive, with the confidence to provide expert advice
  • Positive can-do attitude and service mindset
  • A high level of computer literacy using Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Personal commitment to witnessing and promoting the ethos and values of the Catholic Church.
  • Valid West Australian ‘C’ Drivers Licence

 

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Show initiative, resilience, and organisation when handling tasks.
  • Effectively communicate complex legislation in clear, practical terms and deliver engaging training to diverse stakeholders.
  • Understand the role and structures of the Catholic Church in contemporary Australian society including its social teaching.
  • Build relationships and empower fellow employees of the Archdiocese.
  • Uphold and exemplify the organisation’s values and behaviours

The successful applicant will be subject to Federal Police Clearance (and maybe Medical Check).
