About Us

In 1838, five Sisters of Charity from Ireland arrived in Australia. They were the first religious women to come to the Colony. Their mission is to bring to all people “the love, tenderness and concern of Christ for the poor and marginalised”.

The Sisters of Charity of Australia, led by the Congregational Leader and her Council, have many mission involvements. The Congregational Office is based in Bondi Junction, Sydney and the Sisters also have a presence in other locations across Australia.

The Congregation is seeking a part-time Assistant Accountant/Bookkeeper to join their team.

The Role

Working in a small team and reporting to the Financial Administrator, a key function of your role will be the organisation of data to ensure journals, financial records, ledgers and computer records are accurate and able to be retrieved if required.

Your specific responsibilities will include classifying, recording and computing source records and data to ensure records are complete and accurate; preparing daily bank reconciliations; processing accounts payable for review and authorisation by the Congregational Leader and Council; distributing records and reconciling monthly community returns; accounting for Sisters’ monthly expenditures; submitting debtors’ invoices for authorisation, and monitoring these to ensure the receipt of funds in a timely manner.

In carrying out your work, you will uphold and support the ethos and mission of the Congregation, and work collaboratively and harmoniously with colleagues.

The role is an ongoing part-time position, 18 to 20 hours a week, which may be worked across three or four days, Monday to Friday. 

About You

As the ideal candidate for this role, you will meet the following Key Requirements:

  • Qualifications in accounting or bookkeeping or equivalent relevant experience
  • A fundamental understanding of accounting principles and knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures relating to accounting
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer systems, including MYOB, Outlook 365 and SharePoint
  • Working knowledge of accounting software systems, in particular, MYOB
  • Attention to detail
  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Flexible approach to work.
