Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Assistant Principal: Mission to join the leadership team at Marist College, Emerald.

In this leadership position you will exhibit a deep commitment to providing quality Catholic education, participate in the faith life of the parish, as well as have appropriate teaching experience, academic qualifications and leadership qualities.

The position of Assistant Principal: Mission acknowledges the important and distinctive place of religious education and faith development within Catholic schools. The Assistant Principal: Mission focuses on providing leadership in religious education, including the religious life of the school, according to Catholic Education – Diocese of Rockhampton policies and procedures.

We are seeking a faith inspired professional educator with vision, energy and a demonstrated commitment to the welfare of students.

This is a full-time position commencing from 20 January 2025.

  • Enhancing Catholic Ethos and Identity: Fostering the religious life of the school through Christian witness, active participation in a parish, promotion of Gospel Values and the provision of quality Religious Education.
  • Leading, Teaching and Learning: Ability to develop and implement high quality learning and teaching programs.
  • Developing self and others: Supporting others and building capacity with a focus on continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
  • Leading improvement, innovation and change: Aligning strategic goals and initiatives with the vision and mission of the school and School Review and Improvement Processes.
  • Engaging and working with the community: Ability to foster and develop appropriate relationships with school staff, students, parents, clergy, parishioners and the wider community.

Key leadership qualities and capabilities

We are seeking to appoint a leader who

  • is a practising Catholic with a sound understanding of, and commitment to Catholic education
  • can foster a culture of inspirational teaching and learning and lead the development and implementation of school improvement initiatives
  • has the interpersonal skills to build partnerships within the school and with the local community
  • is willing to provide leadership in areas delegated by the Principal in the APRE duty statement, and
    • can lead in ways that are consistent with the message of Jesus and the Gospels
    • Catholic church teachings, principles and values
    • Diocesan policies and directives
    • The Catholic Education Diocese of Rockhampton Charter
    • Catholic Education Mission and Vision Statements, policies, practices and strategic directions.

About us

Marist College, Emerald is a catholic co-educational secondary college situated in the Central Highlands, three hours west of Rockhampton. The College draws students from Emerald as well as surrounding rural areas including Gindie, Springsure, the Gemfields, Clermont, Blackwater, Tieri, Capella and many rural properties and currently caters for years with an enrolment of 660 students.

Mandatory Requirements 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and the ability to obtain approved Queensland College of Teachers Registration
