Position: Assistant Principal – Religious Education (Secondary)
Salary Range: $145,401 – $152,543 per annum pending experience
Commencing Date: January 2025
Tenure: Full Time, Fixed Term Contract
Closing Date: Monday, 30 September 2024 unless filled prior

St Teresa’s College, Abergowrie is a Catholic secondary boy’s boarding college. Located in an ideal rural setting in the heart of the Herbert River Valley, the College is approximately 30 km northwest of Ingham and situated on Warrgamay land. The main industries are sugarcane, forestry and cattle. Abergowrie is close to Wallaman Falls which is the highest single-drop waterfall in Australia and the beautiful Broadwater National Park.

About the role

St. Teresa’s College, Abergowrie is seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Principal – Religious Education (APRE). This position is a Full Time, 5 Year Fixed Term appointment.

The APRE plays a key role in assisting the Principal in evangelising the Mission of the Church through coordinating and managing the Religious Education Curriculum and nurturing the Religious Life of the School. They are charged with prioritising enhancing their school’s Catholic identity and culture through being the lead teacher, specialist and moderator of Religious Education, and supporting and developing the professional formation of staff.

The purpose of the APRE role is to exercise senior leadership and assist the Principal with the management of the school in accordance with Catholic tradition in consultation with other personnel as appropriate and with due reference to Catholic Education structures, policies, processes and practices. The APRE is responsible for the supervision of those areas as delegated by the Principal and as designated in his/her duty statement which should be reviewed annually.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
  • Is committed to the Catholic faith, an active member of a Catholic Eucharistic community and is free from any impediment to full communion with the church
  • Appropriate Tertiary qualification with registration or eligibility for registration with Queensland College of Teachers
  • Full accreditation to teach Religious Education in a Catholic school
  • A minimum of 8 semester units of postgraduate study in Religious Education, Scripture, Theology, Catholic Ethos and/or currently undertaking, with a commitment to completion
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville

Desirable Criteria

  • Masters or other postgraduate qualification in Theology, Religious Education or Educational Leadership from an Australian Catholic university
  • Recent leadership experience in a Catholic School with the ability to lead the drive for educational excellence
  • Can show evidence of educational, pastoral, theological and managerial aspects of school leadership.
