Job Description

St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Bundaberg is seeking a dedicated and visionary leader to join the leadership team as Assistant Principal – Religious Education (APRE). This full-time position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the spiritual and educational life of the school community.

As APRE, you will demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering high-quality Catholic education and actively participate in the faith life of the parish. The successful applicant will possess relevant teaching experience, appropriate academic qualifications, and proven leadership capabilities.

The APRE plays a vital role in supporting the Principal in enhancing the Catholic identity of the school. This includes fostering the religious life of the school, and ensuring the effective teaching of Religion in accordance with the policies and practices of Catholic Education – Diocese of Rockhampton.

Key leadership qualities and capabilities

We are seeking to appoint a leader who

  • is a practising Catholic with a sound understanding of, and commitment to Catholic education
  • can foster a culture of inspirational teaching and learning and lead the development and implementation of school improvement initiatives
  • has the interpersonal skills to build partnerships within the school and with the local community
  • is willing to provide leadership in areas delegated by the Principal in the APRE duty statement, and
    • can lead in ways that are consistent with the message of Jesus and the Gospels
    • Catholic church teachings, principles and values
    • Diocesan policies and directives
    • The Catholic Education Diocese of Rockhampton Charter
    • Catholic Education Mission and Vision Statements, policies, practices and strategic directions.

This position will commence from 19 January 2026.

About us

St Mary’s School offers a balanced curriculum in a child centred, friendly environment. The school is located in an urban setting on a large parcel of land with well-maintained and well-resourced grounds. The school has a strong Music Program which includes lessons and training for the school concert bands. Part of the Music program also includes 2 choirs, a Junior and a Senior Choir. The students enjoy many opportunities to be involved in sporting activities e.g. surf life saving and interschool sport, competitions e.g. eisteddfods. The school has a very good reputation in the local community as a school that provides a family centred atmosphere and a curriculum that caters for student needs.

Mandatory Requirements 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and the ability to obtain approved Queensland College of Teachers Registration
