FULL TIME | COMMENCING JAN 2027

APRE SALARY: $157,919 to $159,324 (depending on Master’s completion)

REC SALARY: CT LEVEL + $19,603 REC ALLOWANCE

 

The Position

The Assistant Principal Religious Education (APRE) / Religious Education Coordinator (REC) shares responsibility with the Principal for spiritual and theological leadership, faith formation, and embedding Catholic and local Aboriginal perspectives across the curriculum.

This executive leadership role leads Religious Education, liturgy, faith formation and Catholic identity, and is open to practicing Catholics committed to the Catholic faith. Opportunities are available across Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic College (Alice Springs), Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School (Woodroffe), Murrupurtiyanuwu Catholic Primary School (Wurrumiyanga) and Xavier Catholic College ( Wurrumiyanga) commencing January 2027.

Key Responsibilities

The APRE / Religious Education Coordinator will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Religious Education curriculum, including Journey in Faith and the Made in the Image of God Human Sexuality Program.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to support effective planning, delivery and evaluation of Religious Education teaching and learning.
  • Coordinate and lead liturgies, prayer and faith celebrations for students and staff.
  • Support the parish in the leadership and implementation of Sacramental preparation programs.
  • Lead the development and delivery of formation programs for students and staff.
  • Promote and encourage ongoing professional development and faith formation opportunities for staff.
  • Provide leadership in meeting accreditation requirements and strengthening Catholic identity across the school.

Essential Criteria

The successful applicant will:

  • Be a practicing Catholic and active member of a Catholic Eucharistic community.
  • Be a person of integrity with a personal commitment to Christ and a just engagement with the world.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to promote and lead the identity and mission of a Catholic school within a contemporary context.
  • Demonstrate leadership in faith formation, liturgy and social justice initiatives.
  • Be a skilled educator with the ability to lead Religious Education curriculum design, implementation and assessment.
  • Demonstrate contemporary pedagogical practice in Religious Education relevant to the cultural context of the school community.
  • Possess highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Hold a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education and be completing, or willing to work towards, a Master’s degree in Religious Education, Theology or Catholic Educational Leadership (or equivalent).
