Job Description

Serve the Mission. Shape the Future.
Join the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle as a Board or Council Member

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle invites committed, values-driven individuals to contribute their expertise to the mission of the Church and the wellbeing of our communities.

Extending from Lake Macquarie to Taree and inland to Merriwa and Murrurundi, the Diocese represents approximately 150,000 Catholics and is one of the region’s most significant community service providers and employers.

As part of a refreshed governance framework grounded in both civil and Church law, we are establishing new Councils, Boards and Committees that will guide and strengthen our ministries. These bodies will work in a synodal way, collaboratively, reflectively and with a commitment to robust, respectful dialogue. Members will play a vital role in stewarding a Diocese that employs more than 5,500 people and provides essential services to Catholic and non-Catholic communities alike.

Our agencies include Catholic Schools, educating over 21,000 students across 58 schools; CatholicCare Social Services, supporting families, young people and vulnerable community members; St Nicholas Early Education, caring for more than 2,000 children in long-day-care and 4,000 in out-of-school-hours programs; and Hunter Community Housing, a Tier 2 provider offering supported and affordable housing.

We welcome expressions of interest from individuals across the Diocese who feel called to offer their wisdom, professional experience and passion. Whether your strengths lie in governance, finance, education, social services, pastoral care, community engagement or strategic leadership, your contribution can help shape a mission-centred future.

More information about each Council, Board and Committee is available on our website. We invite you to join us in service, discernment and shared purpose as together we fulfill our mission – to serve all in the community so they may experience life to the full.
