Job Description

VSL are seeking a new Chair, to head up their Board of Directors. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to lead the strategic direction and governance of this organisation, ensuring the delivery of high-quality education to students across Victoria.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership to the Board, and assist the Board to work effectively and discharge it’s role and responsibilities as set out in the Company’s constitution,
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to support the achievement of EREA’s mission and objectives.
  • Lead regular Board meetings, discussions, and decision-making processes.
  • Contribute expertise and insights to the development and implementation of policies, programs, and initiatives.
  • Foster effective relationships with stakeholders, including the Trustees and EREA national network, School Advisory Chairs, school leaders, staff, parents, and the broader community.
  • Engage, communicate with and provide support for the CEO of the organisation.

Our client is looking for candidates that satisfy the following criteria;

  • Previous experience in a Chair position is a mandatory pre-requisite for this position, preferably in a non-profit or educational setting,
  • Completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Course,
  • Candidates from varying background will be considered, preferably with experience in Not-for-profit & /or Secondary education,
  • Experience dealing with Regulators including; Victorian Registrations and Qualifications Authority (VRQA), Victorian Catholic Education Authority (VCEA), Australian Charities and Not For Profit Commission (ACNC)
  • Effective strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound judgements and recommendations,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders,
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values and mission of EREA, including a passion for Catholic education and social justice,
  • A rewarding leadership role within a respected Catholic Education organisation

Time commitment – The Chair position will have a commitment initially of 1 day per week, plus you will be expected to attend and lead approximately eight Board meetings per year, as well as occasional subcommittee meetings and events. Additional time may be required for preparation and engagement outside of formal meetings.
