Director of Business

The Position
Loreto Toorak is seeking a dynamic and accomplished Director of Business. As a key member of the executive leadership team, this position will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across a diverse and critical portfolio, including Finance, Property and Facilities, Occupational Health and Safety, Risk and Compliance, and Information Technology. We welcome applications from candidates available to start in either Term 4, 2025 or Term 1, 2026.
Reporting directly to the Principal and working closely with the School Board, the Director of Business will play a central role in shaping the long-term sustainability and operational excellence of the School. This position also acts as Company Secretary to the School Board.
This pivotal leadership position requires a high performing, forward-thinking, solutions-oriented professional with a strong capacity for financial management, governance and risk management to support the educational outcomes for students.
Responsibilities of the role will include:
- Collaborate closely with the Principal, School Board, and other senior leaders to align business operations with the school’s strategic goals and values
- Lead and manage the school’s financial planning, budgeting, and reporting processes to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency
- Oversee property management, maintenance, and capital works projects to support a safe, sustainable, and well-maintained learning environment
- Oversight of the development and implementation of Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures, fostering a culture of safety and compliance throughout the school community
- Manage risk by identifying potential challenges, implementing proactive measures, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices
- Provide expert advice and recommendations to support informed decision-making at the executive and board level
- Lead and mentor a team of business and operational staff, promoting professional development and high performance
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Proven experience in senior leadership roles, preferably within the education or not for profit sector
- Strong financial acumen with a demonstrated ability to manage budgets and financial reporting
- Expertise in capital works, property management, OH&S standards, and risk management frameworks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with a hands-on approach to driving results
- Relevant qualifications in business management, finance, or related fields
- CA or CPA qualification preferred
- AICD membership highly regarded
