SHORT JOB DESCRIPTION

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Director, People and Culture to join the Executive Leadership Team at Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools.

YOUR ROLE

The Director, People and Culture role supports MACS schools and offices in enacting our MACS2030 strategy – and in particular driving strategic workforce transformation, employee engagement and compliance across MACS.

This role would suit an experienced HR executive with a strong background in workforce strategy, safety and change management, who is capable of influencing executive decision-making and fostering a high-performance culture.

Inspired by Catholic faith, the position will lead the People & Culture team and will be focused on building a strong, engaged workforce at significant scale, ensuring compliance with workplace laws, and driving organisational development to support MACS’s strategic goals and Catholic education mission.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead workforce transformation by developing and implementing strategic people and culture initiatives to drive organisational change and a high-performance culture.
  • Develop and implement a people strategy with key performance targets, reporting frameworks, and workforce planning aligned with MACS’s strategic objectives.
  • Enhance organisational development and talent management by designing and executing programs for leadership development, succession planning, talent management and employee engagement for over 17,000 staff.
  • Provide executive leadership for workplace health and safety and injury management.
  • Oversee employee relations and compliance, ensuring adherence to workplace laws and enterprise agreements,
  • Monitor and mitigate people and safety-related risks by collaborating with internal audit teams to assess workforce management, compliance, and employee wellbeing risks.
  • Engage with stakeholders and advocate for MACS by representing the organisation in government, regulatory, and sector forums to influence policy and align with best HR practices in participation with parish activities, volunteering or membership Catholic organisations.
  • Complex recruitment involving a total talent solution matrix and frameworks that facilitate diverse hires for school and office at scale
  • Support workforce transformation as we embark on a system wide digital reimagination program to enhance productivity, aligning employees with organisation growth

ABOUT YOU

  • You authentically celebrate Catholic mission and identity as the central tenet of our organisation
  • You are a highly experienced HR leader with a proven track record in workforce transformation, employee relations, executive -level safety leadership and organisational development within complex environments.
  • You are a strategic thinker and change leader, capable of driving high-impact people and culture initiatives at scale, that align with MACS 2030.
  • You have strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with experience influencing executives, unions, regulators, board and committee and government bodies.
  • You excel in building high-performing teams, fostering a positive workplace culture, and implementing leadership development programs.
  • You are committed to integrity, respect, and excellence in the workplace
  • Have, or recognise the need to work quickly towards, a deep understanding of child safety.
