Job Description

About CatholicCare Social Services:

CatholicCare, an Agency of the Catholic Diocese of Toowoomba, is a values-based organisation, committed to providing services to the entire community, regardless of religion, circumstances, ethnicity, economic situation, age, gender or ability. CatholicCare has a workforce of 50, and operates in Toowoomba and Southwest Queensland.

Their mission is to empower individuals, families and communities to meet the challenges of life and relationships.

As an operating arm of the Catholic Church, the role is performed in accordance with Catholic social teachings as well as the Federal and State legislative and policy environment.

About the Role:

This position is fundamentally responsible for providing strong leadership, strategic direction, and effective operational management for the CatholicCare Agency. The primary goal is to fulfill and advance the Church’s vision of social justice in action, particularly within the Toowoomba Diocese.

The successful execution of these plans is guided by the directives approved by the Bishop of Toowoomba, ensuring alignment with the broader objectives of the Church. Furthermore, this role involves working closely with the CatholicCare Advisory Council, which provides valuable insights and support to enhance the agency’s initiatives and outreach efforts.

By fostering a culture of compassion and service, the position plays a crucial role in addressing the diverse needs of the community, promoting social equity, and championing the values of the Church. This multifaceted approach not only aims to deliver effective services but also seeks to inspire and engage individuals and groups within the Diocese, mobilising them toward a collective mission of social justice.

About the Person:

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills with a consultative and collaborative style, enabling them to effectively navigate complex change management processes. They are adept at building networks within and beyond the organisation, working closely with boards and committees, and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Their influential approach, combined with demonstrated resilience and excellent interpersonal skills, ensures they can lead and inspire others in challenging environments.

Proficiencies in financial management, human and community services, and navigating government regulations are essential for this role. With extensive senior management experience, particularly in the community services or not-for-profit sectors, the successful candidate has a proven track record in leading complex organisations and securing government funding.

An understanding of Catholic social teachings, coupled with an appreciation for Church culture, allows the candidate to represent CatholicCare and the Diocese in public forums, advocating for the Church’s mission in delivering social services.
