Job Description

Background

The Congregation Finance Advisory Council (FAC) fulfils a consultative role to the Congregation Leader and Council by providing advice regarding the stewardship of resources to support the aims and objects of the Congregation.  The primary function of the FAC is to provide advice and formulate recommendations that will facilitate the most efficient and effective stewardship of the Congregation’s investment portfolio to meet the objects of the Congregation.  In addition the FAC will act as a sounding board for the Congregation Leadership Team on other strategic issues.

The role is voluntary.

Member profile

The FAC is based on a skill matrix with External members possessing or displaying the following skills and attributes:

  • Sound understanding of investment theory and practice
  • An understanding of risk management practices
  • Relevant Industry experience
  • Governance or senior management experience
  • An understanding of the charitable and non-profit sector
  • An awareness of safeguarding as required by the ACNC and as it relates to Church entities

Commitment

The Finance Advisory Council meets up to four times a year and meetings are currently held on a Friday between 8am and 10.30am.  The meeting cycle is generally:

    • March – December quarter portfolio review
    • May – March quarter portfolio review/provider desktop review
    • August – June quarter portfolio review /ESG review
    • November – September quarter portfolio review/policy review
