FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT

Fulltime, 12 months maternity relief

(hybrid)

Are you passionate about finance and reporting? The Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart are seeking a full-time Financial Accountant for a 12-month maternity relief contract.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Financial Accountant is responsible for the integrity of the financial data and ensures that all transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner so that quality and efficient service is provided to all stakeholders.

This position is temporary in nature due to our Financial Accountant taking parental leave for a period of 12 months initially.

Founded in 1866 by Saint Mary MacKillop and Fr Julian Tenison Woods, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart operates as a registered charity with central offices in Sydney, regional offices across Australia and offices in New Zealand and Ireland and a presence in some other countries.

This role is responsible for month-end closing and monthly financial reporting and also contributes to the interim and final audits as well as budgeting and forecasting processes. The key software programs currently in use to support the finance function are Greentree, ProMaster, MicrOpay and ConnX.

This is a great opportunity for a financial accountant capable of managing the end-to-end month-end process for a purpose-led, value driven organisation. After the initial induction period, there will be an opportunity to partially work from home (up to two days per week).

About you:

To be successful in this role you have a tertiary qualification in finance and be CA or CPA accredited. Along with your excellent technical skills, you have the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels including senior leaders. You are a team player who likes working with others to meet deadlines and expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that all transactional processes are carried out as required and ensure that best accounting practices are adhered to
  • Undertake month end processes including processing of journals, preparing monthly accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and preparing and lodging of compliance reporting (BAS, FBT)
  • Maintain the fixed asset register
  • Prepare monthly management reports, with insightful commentary and other ad-hoc reports and analyses for the Australian and Irish Regions.
  • Participate as a key member of the project team to implement a new finance system MYOB Acumatica. including testing, training and checking the migration of data from the old system.
  • Prepare monthly investment reports.
  • Prepare information for statutory audits.
  • Participate in the annual budget and forecasting processes.
  • Improve procedures and systems to ensure efficient operations.
  • Review weekly accounts payable batches for accuracy and appropriate approval and prepare fortnightly payments for Irish Region.
  • Assist other members of the finance team if/when required.

 REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (SELECTION CRITERIA):

 Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and CA, CPA or similar accreditation
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully performing financial and management accounting functions
  • Demonstrated proficiency of Office 365 at advanced level
  • Up to date knowledge of accounting standards and statutory and regulatory obligations

Desirable

  • Experience with MYOB Acumatica, MYOB Greentree, ProMaster and ConnX
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector
