Job Description

Position Description: Fundraising Communications Specialist
Archdiocese of Brisbane

About the Role

We’re looking for a creative and strategic communicator who knows how to craft a message that moves hearts and minds—and inspires generous giving. As our Fundraising Communications Specialist, you’ll be a key member of a passionate, energised team working across five Catholic agencies to raise funds for ministries that serve people and communities in need.

You’ll develop and deliver engaging fundraising content across digital and print platforms that tell powerful stories, inspire donor connection, and drive real impact. From appeal copy and video scripts to donor engagement journeys and advertising campaigns, your work will help fund everything from seminarian formation to social outreach, Catholic education bursaries, and care for retired priests.

This is a rare opportunity to combine your communications talent with purpose-driven work in a collaborative environment built on faith, integrity, creativity, and community.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll work alongside donor relations and donor services colleagues, under the guidance of the Director of Communication and Engagement, to:

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising communications plan across five Catholic charitable causes
  • Craft and maintain distinct messaging frameworks for each agency while upholding organisational brand and tone
  • Collaborate with fundraising team to align content with campaign goals, donor segments, and key fundraising cycles (e.g. tax-time appeals, Christmas campaigns, bequests)

Content Creation

  • Write compelling and inspiration copy for fundraising appeals (print, email and digital)
  • Draft scripts and storyboards for donor-focused video content
  • Develop donor impact stories, cases for support, and bespoke materials to support major gift cultivation and legacy giving
  • Create content for newsletters, press releases, social media posts, website updates, and annual reports

Creative Collaboration

  • Work closely with graphic designer, digital specialists, and fundraising staff to bring campaigns to life
  • Source and interview case study subjects, shaping real stories into inspiring donor messages
  • Tailor messages to multiple audiences and channels, from major donors to first-time givers, across email, web, social and post

Project Management & Reporting

  • Track and report on communications effectiveness, campaign engagement, and donor response rates
  • Contribute to internal debriefs and learning cycles to improve performance across channels
  • Keep content libraries and brand tools up to date and accessible for internal stakeholders

What You Bring

  • A passion for purpose and a desire to see your work contribute to real, life-changing impact
  • Degree qualification in marketing, communications or similar discipline
  • 5+ years’ experience in communications, copywriting, fundraising or marketing—ideally in the nonprofit or values-driven sector
  • Demonstrated experience writing persuasive content for appeals, digital campaigns or donor stewardship
  • Excellent copywriting, editing and content creation ability – a natural story-teller who can share the good works of the Catholic Church in SE Queensland in a way that leaves a lasting impression and motivates action
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with sharp attention to detail
  • Familiarity with CRMs, digital fundraising platforms, email tools, and content calendars
  • Comfort working both autonomously and in close collaboration with a cross-functional team
  • Ability to work as part of a team to manage multiple projects whilst delivering on key

Personal Qualifications / Attributes / Traits / Capabilities:

  • Behaviour compatible with Catholic Social teaching (e.g.,treating individuals with dignity and respect).
  • A willingness to travel if required.
  • Affinity with the overall mission of the Catholic
  • Personal characteristics associated with successful fundraising professionals, including sound judgement, impeccable integrity, demonstrated initiative, and attitude and personality to work  effectively with colleagues, clergy, religious, lay staff, volunteers, and constituents.
  • Ability to maintain the confidence of others in dealing with sensitive information

What You’ll Love About Working Here

  • A values-led culture grounded in faith, service and respect
  • A team that is generous with ideas, energy, encouragement and having a good laugh together
  • Opportunities to grow your skills, shape your role, and bring creative ideas to life
  • Purposeful work that connects donors to ministries doing good in the world
  • Some flexible hybrid working options (with in-office collaboration preferred)
