Fundraising Development Manager, Catholic Diocese of Toowoomba (QLD)

Job Description

We currently seek to employ a Fundraising Development Manager on a full-time basis for a tenure of up to 4 years with the Catholic Diocese of Toowoomba.

This position’s main purpose and primary objective is to:

  • To operate in accordance with Catholic social teaching and the priorities of the Diocese of Toowoomba.
  • To act as a Fundraising Development Manager including being responsible for planning, cultivating, soliciting as well as the stewardship of a portfolio of major gift prospective benefactors that will benefit the Roman Catholic Diocese of Toowoomba.
  • To coordinate and manage the emerging fundraising function of the Diocese for the achievement of budget commitments.

Key Accountabilities/Duties/Responsibilities include:

General

  • Support the Diocese’s mission and values
  • Participate with the Bishop and senior diocesan staff in development of realistic annual KPIs and monitor the achievement of the KPIs.
  • Identify, qualify and solicit major cash, pledge, and bequest gifts from potential benefactors in support of the Diocese of Toowoomba.
  • Manage and develop relationships with a portfolio of 100 prospective benefactors, developing written solicitation strategies and proposals.
  • Conduct a fundraising campaign to raise funds for the restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral which is already underway.
  • Work closely with and coordinate cultivation and solicitation activities with members of the Diocesan personal.
  • Coordinate and implement a comprehensive prospect Moves Management process.
  • Planning direct mail and electronic appeals, and other aspects of donor contact, as necessary and according to an approved development plan.
  • Prepare solicitation letters and proposals, scripts, and other collateral materials associated with the solicitation of major gifts.
  • In coordination with the Bishop and senior diocesan staff, formulate annual solicitation goal(s), benefactor moves management activity, and income and expense budgets.
  • Work with the Bishop and senior diocesan staff to create a detailed development plan for 12 months, within a broader 36-Month plan.
  • Create internal tracking mechanisms.
  • Track progress against measurable outcomes, analyse results, formulate methods for improvement, and report regularly to the Bishop and senior diocesan staff as appropriate.
  • OH&S for self and others as per Diocesan Policies and Guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Bishop.

Development of respectful relationships

  • Ensure the fundamental rights of children, young people and vulnerable adults are respected in so far as this applies in the Fundraising scope of activity.

We are looking for candidates with these attributes:

Competencies:

  • A proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts.
  • Demonstrated high order communication skills, written, oral, and listening.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills, including ability to manage complex responsibilities.

Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education or equivalent.
  • Qualification as a Certified Fund-Raising Executive is preferred.
  • Driver’s licence.
  • Ability to work effectively with clergy, religious, staff and volunteers.
  • Affinity with the overall mission of the Diocese of Toowoomba.
  • Ability to maintain the confidence of others in dealing with sensitive information.

Work Experience:

  • Several years’ experience in a management role within a medium to large organisation.
  • At least five years’ experience as a gifts officer in a non-profit organization or equivalent experience.
  • A proven track record of canvassing and closing major gifts.

  • Personal characteristics associated with successful resource development professionals, including sound judgement, impeccable integrity, demonstrated initiative, and attitude and personality to work effectively with colleagues, Diocesan clergy, religious, lay staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
  • Lifestyle and work behaviours consistent with Catholic Christian values.
