Job Description

Lead with purpose and vision in a role to make a lasting difference in the lives of children, families, and communities across Far North Queensland.

At Catholic Early Learning & Care (CELC) we work together with Centacare FNQ based on our shared values of Catholic Social Teaching. We believe early childhood education transforms lives and support families.

We’re looking for a values-driven General Manager to guide our trusted network of Early Learning Centres, Kindergartens, and OSHC services — spanning from Weipa to Silkwood — into the next chapter of growth, impact and innovation with opportunities presented to explore the potential of child and family hub model.

Lead a legacy of care

An agency of the Catholic Diocese of Cairns, CELC has been providing trusted early childhood education and care since 2013. We operate 16 services delivering Long Day Care, Kindergarten and OSHC for children aged 6 weeks to 13 years.

We consider ourselves a small, operation—big enough to deliver quality, but small enough to truly know and care for one another.

Our centres are welcoming places where every child is seen, every family is respected, and every educator is supported. Caring for children and families is our purpose — and child safety is at the heart of all we do.

Our learning environments are play-based, authentic, and developmentally sensitive. Our programs support wellbeing, nutrition, cultural connection, and development — tailored to each child’s unique needs.

What You’ll Do

You’ll lead CELC’s operations and implement the strategic direction—ensuring services operate safely, within legislation, overseeing human resource and financial management, prioritising family engagement in line with our values. You will:

  • Champion high-quality, inclusive education and care across all sites
  • Strengthen child safeguarding and trauma-informed practices
  • Oversee budgets, compliance, and centre performance
  • Lead and mentor a passionate and diverse team
  • Build strong partnerships with stakeholders across education, government, and community

Why This Role Will Inspire You

  • Because you want to lead with impact. This is your opportunity to shape strategy, drive excellence, and influence early childhood outcomes on a regional scale.
  • Because you care deeply. We’re a purpose-led, child-first organisation committed to safeguarding, cultural connection, and inclusion.
  • Because you’re ready for the next big step. You’ll work closely with executive leaders and be empowered to lead growth, develop people, and spark innovation.

Who You Are

You’re a leader who brings experience, emotional intelligence, and clarity of purpose. You:

  • Have senior leadership experience in the early years sector
  • Understand the National Quality Framework and broader regulatory landscape
  • Know how to lead change and build strong teams across diverse settings
  • Balance strategic thinking with practical delivery and accountability
  • Align with Catholic social teachings and values, with a commitment to equity, inclusion and the common good
  • Are a confident communicator who builds influence and connection
  • Hold relevant tertiary qualifications (postgraduate qualifications highly regarded)
  • Have a valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card), National Police Check, and open Driver’s Licence

The Perks

  • Senior salary aligned with Diocesan pay structure
  • Work-life balance — no weekends or public holidays
  • Two-week closure at Christmas/New Year
  • Tools and training to support your leadership journey
  • Collaborative local management and governance located in Cairns
  • You’ll be based in beautiful Far North Queensland working from a purpose-driven Catholic organisation that values connection and care
