About the role

The Head of Confraternity of Christian Doctrine is responsible for the leadership and management of religious education and faith formation of Catholic students in Government and Special schools through the training and support of Special Religious Education (SRE) Teachers. The Head of Confraternity of Christian Doctrine is also responsible for SRE curriculum development and compliance and providing proactive and intuitive leadership to the team.

Working with multiple stakeholders including clergy, parishes, teachers, state schools, families, government departments and agencies of the Church, you will ensure the Diocese and parishes deliver quality Special Religious Education (SRE) in line with relevant legislative requirements and policy frameworks.

You will ensure that curriculum resources meet the needs of the Diocese, are age-appropriate, and can be taught with sensitivity. You will also develop and provide additional curriculum resources, including digital, to complement the authorised curriculum being taught in the Diocese.

Furthermore, you will ensure the implementation of Diocesan statutory safeguarding, authorisation and training requirements and support the delivery of training and formation for SRE Teachers, including providing classroom mentoring as required.

You will assist parishes in the identification and recruitment of SRE teachers and liaise with state schools to address and enact SRE Implementation Procedures.

As the Head of Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, you will be responsible for the preparation of the CCD budget and allocation of expenditure, the preparation of reports for the ministry, and management of CCD resources.

About you

Key to this role is your understanding of the SRE ministry in a Catholic context and commitment to the vision of the Bishop of the Diocese of Parramatta. Just as important is your understanding of the government’s requirements in relation to provision of SRE in public schools in NSW.

Specifically, as the successful candidate you will ideally meet the following Key Requirements:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience inclusive of Education, Religious Education, Theology, Faith Formation
  • Demonstrated understanding and preparedness to commit to the ethos and values of the Diocese and the Catholic Church
  • A thorough understanding of the SRE ministry in a Catholic context and commitment to the vision of the Bishop of the Diocese of Parramatta
  • An excellent understanding of the Department of Education and Office of the Children’s Guardian requirements in relation to provision of SRE in public schools in NSW
  • Experience in the development and delivery of religious education curriculum/training programs in schools and in supervising and teaching catechists’ training
  • Experience in parish-based ministries and development of parish-based programs and activities
  • Experience in strategic planning activities, managing a budget, and in leading staff and supporting their development
  • Strong collaboration, negotiation, customer service and IT skills and an ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands and priorities
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence.
