Job Description

- Aged care focus
- Permanent part-time, 3 or 4 days a week
About Us
In 1838, five Sisters of Charity from Ireland arrived in Australia. They were the first religious women to come to the Colony. Their mission is to bring to all people “the love, tenderness and concern of Christ for the poor and marginalised”.
The Sisters of Charity of Australia, led by the Congregational Leader and her Council, have many mission involvements. The Congregational Office is based in Bondi Junction in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
The Congregation is seeking a qualified and experienced Registered Nurse to take up the role of Health and Wellbeing Coordinator to support their Sisters. The Sisters live independently in the community or in residential care across Sydney. A small number of Sisters reside just outside of Sydney.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager in relation to administrative matters, you will work cooperatively with the Congregational Leader, Council and other part-time NSW Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, to provide support to each Sister of Charity in respect of her health and wellbeing, allowing for her continued participation in the life and mission of the Congregation.
You will coordinate health and wellbeing services tailored to the needs of each Sister and develop, review and communicate appropriate health care and wellbeing plans.
Using your superior communication skills, you will collaborate and liaise with healthcare providers, social workers, and other professionals to integrate medical support into programs.
You will maintain regular contact with each Sister to facilitate a supportive and trusted relationship, and provide information and education to the Sisters on health and wellbeing issues.
The role is an ongoing part-time position, with the option to work three or four days a week. The successful candidate must be available to work Wednesdays to Fridays and be available for any emergencies that may arise.
About You
Your qualifications and experience are key to this position, as is your knowledge and understanding of the aged care sector.
Just as important are your superior communication and interpersonal skills and your willingness to uphold the ethos and mission of the Congregation in the performance of your duties.
Specifically, as the ideal candidate for this role, you will meet the following Key Requirements:
- Registered Nurse qualified with experience in aged care and the community sector.
- Understanding of aged and community care and available supports, including legislative requirements and best practice care models.
- Understanding of issues affecting the acute care sector as they apply to Sisters.
- Strong understanding of the physical and mental health needs of the elderly Sisters and issues faced by Sisters as they age.
- Skills in managing Sisters’ transitions, case management, and liaison with stakeholders.
- Empathy, compassion, and high-level interpersonal and communications skills and in building respectful relationships.
- Current drivers’ licence and willingness and capacity to travel to Sisters’ residences, aged care facilities and medical service providers.
- Flexible approach to working hours and willingness and ability to respond to emergency calls.
What’s on Offer?
- The opportunity to support those who have supported others.
- An attractive remuneration package.
- Mobile phone and car for business use provided.
