About Us
In 1838, five Sisters of Charity from Ireland arrived in Australia. They were the first religious women to come to the Colony. Their mission is to bring to all people “the love, tenderness and concern of Christ for the poor and marginalised”.
The Sisters of Charity of Australia led by the Congregational Leader and her Council have many mission involvements. While the Congregational Office is based in Sydney, the Sisters also have a presence in other locations across Australia, including in Victoria.
The Congregation is seeking a part-time Health and Wellbeing Support Coordinator to assist their ageing Sisters who live independently or in residential aged care across Victoria.
The Role
You will report to the Congregational Leader and Council on health and wellbeing matters, and to the General Manager for administrative issues. This role will work closely with the part-time Health and Wellbeing Coordinator in Victoria. You will support the Sisters’ health and wellbeing so they can continue to actively participate in the Congregation’s life and mission and maintain a good quality of life.
You will visit and maintain regular contact with the Sisters to build rapport and monitor their wellbeing. You will accompany and transport the Sisters to medical and other appointments and social outings, assist them with shopping, and oversee the Sisters’ hospitalisation as needed.
Using your strong organisational and administrative skills, you will help the Sisters with completing necessary paperwork, for example, for hospital admissions or payment of medical accounts, and offer practical support such as clothing and assistance with meals.
The role is an ongoing part-time position, ideally to be worked across three days a week.
About You
You will be calm, personable and empathetic, with a genuine desire to assist the elderly, and be committed to the Congregation’s ethos and mission in your work.
Specifically, as the ideal candidate for this role, you will meet the following Key Requirements:
- Experience in providing support within an aged care setting (relevant qualifications are advantageous)
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and foster positive relationships with the Sisters, colleagues and others
- Empathy, compassion, and excellent written and verbal communication and relationship-building skills
- Administrative and organisational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise work
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the role and to comply with all workplace health and safety policies
- Current NSW driver’s licence and access to a fully insured and maintained motor vehicle
- Computer literacy
- Flexible approach to working hours and willingness to respond to emergency calls.
What’s on Offer?
- The opportunity to support those who have lived their lives in support of others
- An attractive salary
- Work-life balance
- Mobile phone and laptop for business use.
