- Use your household management skills to support those who have supported others
- Permanent part-time, 27.5 hours a week (worked over 5 days, Mon – Fri)
- Based in Fitzroy, Melbourne
About Us
In 1838, five Sisters of Charity from Ireland arrived in Australia. They were the first religious women to come to the Colony. Their mission is to bring to all people “the love, tenderness and concern of Christ for the poor and marginalised”.
The Sisters of Charity of Australia, led by the Congregational Leader and her Council, have many mission involvements. While the Congregational Office is based in Sydney, the Sisters also have a presence in other locations across Australia.
The Congregation is seeking a compassionate and personable House Manager to support the Sisters’ community in Melbourne.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager (based in Sydney), you will ensure the Sisters, both resident and visiting, have comfortable surroundings, while enabling the Sisters to manage their own affairs as far as possible.
As well as performing general housekeeping duties, such as cooking, tidying, dusting and shopping, you will greet and welcome guests, ensuring hospitality is extended, receive and distribute mail, deal with requests for accommodation from visitors and keep track of who is in residence and who is away.
In collaboration with the Congregation’s Community Services Coordinator, you will oversee cleaning and maintenance contractors to ensure that the house is comfortable and safe for the Sisters.
You will prepare lunch and evening meals, ensuring proper food handling and storage and that the nutritional and dietary needs of the Sisters are met.
The role is an ongoing part-time position, and the successful candidate will be required to work 5.5 hours a day, five days a week. These hours may be worked between 8.30am to 2.30pm, 9am to 3pm or 10am to 4pm, with a 30-minute break.
A drivers’ licence and car are required in order to do the shopping and undertake small errands from time to time.

- Respect for the privacy and individuality of each member of the community.

- Understanding of the regulatory environment including workplace health and safety and food handling requirements.
- Skills in the preparation of nutritious and attractive meals and in household budgeting.
