About the role
MacKillop College is seeking experienced and a passionate Religious Education teacher to provide instructional leadership that supports the ongoing development of a rich, engaging and authentically Catholic, religious education curriculum.

We are looking for a contemporary educator who combines strong religious education expertise and a genuine commitment to the faith formation of young people. The successful candidate will inspire students to explore questions of meaning, engage thoughtfully with faith and spirituality, and make connections between the message of Jesus in the Gospels and the complexities of contemporary life.

Central to the role is the leadership of a high-quality Religious Education curriculum that develops students’ religious literacy and deepens their understanding of the rich intellectual and cultural tradition of the Catholic Church. The Learning Leader will work collaboratively with teachers to strengthen curriculum, pedagogy and assessment, and to ensure Religious Education is engaging, relevant and responsive to the experiences of contemporary learners.

As a leader of Religious Education, the role extends beyond curriculum delivery. The successful candidate will build the capacity of teachers through professional learning, collaboration and reflective practice, fostering a shared commitment to excellence in Religious Education. They will be confident in leading contemporary pedagogical practice, using evidence and student learning data to inform improvement and supporting teachers to respond to the diverse needs of their learners.

Leadership at MacKillop College

At MacKillop, our leaders play an important role in connecting the academic, pastoral and relational aspects of school life. They work alongside teachers to support effective practice, engage with students and families, respond to challenges and opportunities, and contribute to a consistent and positive experience for students, staff and families.

As MacKillop College enters the final year of its current Position of Leadership cycle, this position is offered for a one-year period, providing an opportunity to make a significant contribution while developing and extending your leadership practice. The successful candidate will be offered permanent, full-time teaching position commencing in Term 1, 2027, with a Position of Leadership (POL 3) until January 2028.

Our ideal Candidate will have

• accreditation to Teach Religious Education or Lead in a Catholic School
• excellent knowledge and understanding of contemporary Religious Education curriculum, pedagogy and assessment, with the capacity to translate this into engaging and meaningful learning experiences for students
• a strong understanding of Catholic theology, Scripture, tradition and Catholic Social Teaching, with a commitment to fostering the Catholic identity and mission of the College
• demonstrated experience leading, supporting and developing educators, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, professional dialogue and shared practice.
• the capacity to lead and build respectful, authentic and purposeful relationships with students, staff and families, and to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• demonstrated capacity to use student learning data, assessment evidence and teacher feedback to inform curriculum planning, identify areas for improvement and enhance student learning outcomes.
• a commitment to ongoing professional learning and the capacity to contribute to a culture of reflective practice, innovation and continuous improvement in Religious Education.
• a strong commitment to Catholic education and an understanding of, and alignment with, the Josephite tradition and the charism of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
