About Us
Through its various ministries and outreach services, the Catholic Diocese of Wagga Wagga (Diocese) nurtures the spiritual lives of Catholics and supports those in the local community through health and aged care, education, welfare and community services. Guided by its mission and vision, the Diocese is committed to supportive, respectful and ethical behaviour, with a dedication to justice, fairness and outreach to those in need.
As part of that commitment, the Diocese established the Professional Standards and Safeguarding Office to raise awareness regarding its collective responsibility to protect the safety, wellbeing and dignity of children, young people and vulnerable adults within the Diocese and to respond swiftly and compassionately in circumstances in which children are harmed or at risk of being harmed.
About the Role
As Manager, Professional Standards and Safeguarding (Manager), you will lead, manage and coordinate the Diocese’s obligation to ensure the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults within its ministries and outreach services, including parishes, diocesan agencies, Centacare Catholic Social Services and Catholic Education.
Together with a small safeguarding team, you will champion best practice in relation to the professional integrity of all engaged in activities associated with the Diocese with respect to safeguarding vulnerable people. You will lead and oversee ongoing training, education and formation of Diocese staff and volunteers and key safeguarding representatives within each of our ministries.
You will promote and drive a culture of safety through the development and implementation of practical and legislatively compliant child and vulnerable adult safe policies and procedures. As a key expert advisor to the Diocesan Bishop and to agency heads, you will partner with them to provide professional advice, service and monitor the implementation of the NSW Child Safe Standards and the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards, supporting and encouraging a healthy and proactive culture of safeguarding.
You will work closely with key stakeholders to respond pastorally to survivors of abuse and manage the Diocese’s pastoral response to abuse claims. You will also manage investigations or external providers engaged to undertake those investigations into claims.
The role is a full-time role and based in Wagga Wagga. Some travel within the Wagga Wagga regional area will be required. An attractive remuneration package, including motor vehicle, is on offer for this opportunity.
