The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is seeking its first senior leader in youth ministry for some time. This is an exciting invitation to join the recently launched Mission & Evangelisation (M&E) team on a permanent, full time basis positioning itself to more deeply accompany parish communities into the future.
The Mission & Evangelisation Partner – Youth Ministry will bring a creative and strategic focus to a new and bespoke strategy for the engagement of young people in the life and mission of the local Church.  Job Description
Position Description
The Mission & Evangelisation (M&E) team in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle focuses on sharing the Gospel with the contemporary world. They provide leadership and resources for Catholic formation, training, and encounters across the diocese.
This role supports faith communities to:
- Thrive in prayer, worship, and liturgy.
- Engage in and lead local faith formation.
- Seek opportunities for mission in the world.
This role develops and coordinates youth ministry practices, aiming to engage teenagers and young adults, especially secondary school students. Parishes are central to this mission, and the role encourages collaboration among faith leaders, volunteers, Catholic Schools, CatholicCare, St Nicholas, and other church bodies under the Director of Mission & Evangelisation.
The successful applicant will need to be flexible to work some evenings and weekends, as required.
 Desired Skills and Experience
Experience/Criteria
- A demonstrated commitment to the ethos and values of the Catholic Church;
- Demonstrated experience in supporting and mentoring leaders in a church context;
- Sound knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church;
- Passion for life in faith, especially in the area of youth ministry;
- Awareness of issues affecting young people in contemporary society;
- Creativity in planning and sharing your ideas with others;
- Strong interpersonal and relationship skills;
- Sound computer literacy including the ability to effectively operate the Microsoft Office suite;
- Project management and strategic planning skills;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Professional manner and presentation;
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, as required.
Qualifications
- Completed or currently enrolled in a university degree in a related field, (at least at undergraduate level).
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
- NSW Employee Working with Children Check.
Desirable
- Tertiary qualifications in Theology and/or Religious Education, or equivalent qualification.
- Understanding and experience with Theological Reflection and discernment.
