Mary MacKillop Place is a nationally significant heritage and pilgrimage destination, which holds the resting place of Saint Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first Canonised saint. We are seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Museum Educator to shape and lead exceptional educational programming. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional who is motivated by purpose and eager to contribute to the strategic growth of a respected cultural and spiritual institution.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, working alongside the Museum Curator, the Museum Educator, a part time continuing role, will play a pivotal role in elevating the Museum’s educational profile by designing and delivering dynamic, curriculum-aligned programs that inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful reflection.
The successful candidate will bring both strategic capability and creative energy, balancing educational excellence with an understanding of the Museum’s mission to welcome, educate, and inspire.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of innovative learning programs for school groups and broader community audiences
· Position the Museum as a destination for high-quality, curriculum-linked educational, historical and spiritual experiences for public, private and catholic schools as well as historical and interest groups
· Translate complex historical and spiritual narratives into accessible and engaging learning opportunities
· Contribute to the strategic development and continuous improvement of the Museum’s education framework
· Foster collaborative partnerships with educators, community groups, and internal stakeholders
· Work closely with staff and volunteers to ensure a professional and mission-aligned visitor experience
About You
· You are an experienced museum or cultural educator recognised for educational excellence and contemporary practice. You bring intellectual curiosity, professional credibility, and a commitment to creating meaningful learning environments and are committed to the mission and values of Mary Mackillop Place. You are guided by Gospel principles and feel inspired by the spirit and legacy of Saint Mary MacKillop
Essential Experience and Attributes:
· Proven success in developing and delivering high-quality educational programs within a museum, gallery, heritage, or cultural environment
· Relevant tertiary qualifications in museum studies, education, humanities, or a related discipline
· Strong knowledge of NSW/Australian and Catholic Schools Curriculum and inquiry-based learning approaches
· Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage audiences across generations
· Strategic mindset with the ability to translate vision into impactful programs
· Demonstrated initiative, sound judgement, and strong organisational capability
· Confidence working both autonomously and collaboratively within a professional team
· High level of digital literacy; experience with creative platforms is advantageous
