Non-Executive Director, Mater (QLD)
posted 3 days ago in LeadershipJob Description
Mater Misericordiae Limited (MML) is seeking applications for a Non-Executive Director to join the MML Board from late 2025.
Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1906, Mater has grown to become Queensland’s largest not for profit healthcare network. From humble beginnings, our mission has remained unchanged: to provide compassionate care to those in need. Today, we proudly operate 11 hospitals across North, Central, and South-East Queensland, delivering high-quality public and private healthcare services to thousands of people each year.
With a legacy of healthcare innovation and leadership spanning more than a century, Mater has made significant contributions to Queensland’s health system —from opening the state’s first hospital laboratory in 1919 to establishing Australia’s largest maternity service, with over 12,000 births annually. Our pioneering spirit continues through Mater Research, a globally recognised institute focused on translating scientific discovery into better clinical outcomes, and Mater Education, a registered training organisation preparing the healthcare workforce of tomorrow.
As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a critical role in guiding Mater’s strategic direction, ensuring good governance, and upholding the organisation’s Mission and Values: compassion, dignity, integrity, and service. You will be joining a values-driven Board committed to strong stewardship, long-term sustainability, and transformational leadership in the Australian healthcare landscape.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated alignment with the Mercy and Mater Mission and Values, and the ability and willingness to work within this ethos, regardless of faith background.
- Proven experience at board level, with a strong working knowledge of contemporary corporate governance systems and frameworks, and the ability to apply this knowledge to enhance organisational performance.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute actively to strategic planning.
- Proven capability to critically analyse organisational financial and operational performance by applying relevant skills, experience, and personal attributes.
- (Preferred) Deep industry knowledge and proven senior leadership experience within the health sector, including an understanding of the current trends, challenges, and opportunities in the industry.
