About the Role

We are seeking a Safeguarding Coordinator role to lead the implementation of the Spirituality Ministry’s Safeguarding Framework. The role is three days per week (0.6 FTE), with flexible and hybrid work arrangements and can be based at our Baulkham Hills or East Melbourne centre.

Reporting to the Head of Finance and Corporate Services, the role provides advice and support to Department Managers and the Safeguarding Committee and is responsible for setting policy and procedures, ensuring our workforce is trained, supported and confident to implement policy and procedures, and managing any safeguarding concerns that arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and uphold the Ministry’s purpose, vision, mission, and values, supporting the Sisters of Saint Joseph, fostering positive relationships, and encouraging a welcoming, hospitable culture.
  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation and Catholic standards, and embedding safeguarding within the Ministry’s risk management framework.
  • Lead safeguarding awareness and engagement initiatives, including clear and child-friendly communications, fostering a culture of openness and reporting, and providing regular implementation reports to leadership and the Safeguarding Committee.
  • Lead and deliver the Ministry’s safeguarding training program, provide expert guidance across Centres, and support leaders and Safeguarding Focal Points to effectively implement safeguarding requirements.

Required experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in safeguarding or child protection.
  • Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, Child Safe Standards, and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Experience delivering safeguarding training.
  • Trauma-informed, survivor-centred practice capability.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Sound analytical ability and professional judgement, with high ethical standards and confidentiality.
  • Commitment to culturally safe practice.

 

Desirable experience:

  • Previous investigation experience, with strong skills in child-focused investigations
  • An understanding of the Australian Catholic Safeguarding Standards is preferred.
