Job Description

Stella Maris Australia, formerly known as the Apostleship of the Sea in Australia, is the Catholic Church’s missionary work to seafarers.

More information about the organisation can be found here: https://stellamarisaustralia.org/

The Stella Maris National Committee operates to promote a national approach to the Stella Maris ministry and to raise awareness of international and local imperatives.

Applications are invited from persons with a passion for seafarer ministry, and a background in corporate governance, ideally within Catholic works, to join the National Committee. We are seeking persons with skills in some of the following: board chair and/or directorship, strategy, policy development, finance, business partnering, philanthropy, risk, training and development, communications or ecumenical relations.

This is a part-time, voluntary role, for a fixed term of three years, with the opportunity to apply for a further three-year appointment. Periodic travel to regional Stella Maris centres may be required. Monthly meetings are held online. There is a requirement to meet in person, up to twice per year. All related travel costs are funded. Participation in voluntary ongoing personal formation will be a requirement in the role.

Closing date for applications is Wednesday 22nd July, 2026.
