The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as Vicar for Education, providing canonical advice and leadership to support the Archbishop’s engagement with Catholic education ministries across the Archdiocese.

Where appropriate, the Vicar for Education will be acting on behalf of the Archbishop, providing trusted advice on mission, governance, public policy and emerging educational issues. The role works to strengthen collaboration, promote Catholic identity and support alignment across Catholic education ministries operating within the Archdiocese.

This is not an operational leadership role, rather, it provides ecclesial leadership, canonical guidance and oversight in support of the Archbishop’s responsibilities relating to Catholic education.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Vicar works closely with the Archbishop, Vicar General, Council of Vicars, the Chair of BCE Council and the Executive Director of Brisbane Catholic Education, and leaders of Religious Institute and Ministerial Public Juridic Person school communities.

Initial Appointment
The initial appointment is a fixed-term 18-month engagement of approximately three days per week, focused on extensive consultation with invested stakeholders, relationship building, scoping and further differentiating responsibilities, and designing future governance and operating arrangements for the education portfolio.

About You
You will bring:

• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability across boards, government, Church and community environments.
• Expertise in education governance, policy, funding and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience providing advice in complex and highly regulated environments.
• A demonstrated understanding of Catholic theology, ecclesiology and mission.
• Sound judgement, credibility, integrity and a collaborative leadership style.
