Job Description
About Us
The Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay (Diocese) is home to more than 215,000 Catholics and exists to serve the People of God in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the North Shore and the Central Coast. Our communities are nourished and sustained by the sacramental life of the Church celebrated and available through its 27 parishes and ecclesial communities, 44 Catholic schools, diocesan agencies and ministries. The Diocese works alongside local people and organisations to provide a diverse range of spiritual, pastoral, educational, social and community support services for those who live and work in the Diocese.
About the Role
The Bishop of the Diocese of Broken Bay has set the path for a new way in which the Diocese journeys forward at the service of the Mission of the Gospel and in care of the people of Broken Bay. The Mission Broken Bay Team (Team) will be at the forefront of that new journey, and we are expanding that Team so that it can advocate and promote the growing missionary outlook of the Diocese to the faith communities it serves.
The Youth Ministries Formation Lead is a newly created role with a key focus to further a culture of youth discipleship in the Diocese in alignment with the Bishop’s vision and pastoral priorities. A key priority of this new role is to provide leadership support in parish youth discipleship, fostering growth in the Gospel, drawing young people into participation in the life and mission of parishes, and empowering them to live as disciples in the world.
Reporting to the Head of Mission Broken Bay, and working collaboratively with diocesan leaders, you will provide advice and guidance to parishes and schools in the areas of youth ministry best practice, the formation of current and potential youth leaders, providing resources that will support and further strengthen youth ministry more broadly and youth initiatives that are innovative and responsive to the needs of young people.
You will work across diocesan agencies to build partnerships and cooperative projects to support discipleship and pastoral care of youth in parishes and schools. You will facilitate training for youth discipleship and leadership, including the creation of resources and strategies that will encourage and empower youth leaders to be living witnesses of the Gospel.
At the heart of this role will be your ability to work collaboratively with various diocesan stakeholders as it relates to Mission projects, and an openness to work with the Team as it evolves and strives to meet the needs of the Diocese.
This position is a full-time role and based at Pennant Hills. The role will require you to work at times on weekends and evenings, and some travel will also be required.
Key Requirements
The Youth Ministries Formation Lead will ideally possess the following knowledge, experience and qualifications:
- A demonstrated personal commitment to the teachings, ethos, values and mission of the Catholic Church.
- An understanding of youth discipleship and evangelisation.
- An understanding of the principles of best practice in youth ministry, and in particular, knowledge of child protection and safeguarding requirements.
- Experience in the development of youth programs and activities, management of groups and individuals.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in youth ministry, pastoral care or education.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- High level skills in the Microsoft Office suite, social media and emerging technologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively and consultatively across a broad spectrum of stakeholders
