About the role

As Director of Confraternity and Christian Doctrine, you will lead, manage and coordinate a team of employees and more than 1,800 volunteers, and oversee the deployment of faith education programmes across the 320 public schools within the Archdiocese.

This role is one of service, support and encouragement, in both a professional and pastoral capacity, with the ability to cast a fresh vision for Special Religious Education (SRE) within the overall mission of the Church and parish life in particular, as an essential evangelising commitment and pastoral work of the Church in Sydney.

The role is a full-time role and based in Leichhardt. Some travel within the Sydney metro area will be required.

The ideal candidate for this role will be accountable for high level responsibilities which include, but not limited to the following:

• Developing a strategic plan to guide the activities and priorities of the CCD
• Establishing policies and procedures for the CCD to ensure effective operations and legislative compliance
• Lead development initiatives that assist CCD staff and parishes in the identification and recruitment of suitable persons as catechists
• Develop engagement strategies and partnerships to effectively to ensure the visibility of CCD as a key agency of the Archdiocese, and ensure best practice
• Develop and manage business plans and budgets, risk mitigation strategies, and succession planning for the future
• Develop and launch a rebranding of the CCD and the work of SRE within Sydney
• Lead and mentor a team in accord with these priorities.

About You

As the ideal candidate, you will satisfy the following Key Requirements:

• Significant years of relevant experience in a similar senior role
• Tertiary qualifications in applicable areas of theology and/or religious education
• Demonstrated commitment to the ethos and values of the Catholic Church
• Demonstrated capacity for effective leadership of staff and volunteers
• Demonstrated track record for communicating and influencing at senior levels
• Proven track record of developing and managing project plans within budget, and in a timely manner
• Proven capacity to effectively manage a variety of stakeholders and achieve specific goals and targets, including through the establishment and maintenance of strong, positive and effective working relationships
• Strong organisational skills with a focus on results and attention to detail
• Demonstrated commitment to service and accountable for performance of self and teams led
• Proficiency in using office technology and tools including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications and preparedness to learn, embrace and effectively utilise emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and online learning platforms.
