About the Role

As Training and Liaison Manager, your primary responsibility will be to manage, facilitate and coordinate the Archdiocese’s obligation to ensure the proper safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults in parishes and agencies, by supporting them in understanding and complying with legislative and regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Director of Safeguarding, Ministerial and Integrity Office and working collaboratively with a small safeguarding team, you will lead and promote the Archdiocese’s obligation to ensure the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults within its ministries and outreach services and in accordance with the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards.

You will be a trusted adviser to parishes and Archdiocesan agencies, councils and committees when it comes to safeguarding compliance, and you will develop and conduct safeguarding and child protection training that is tailored to the needs of a diverse audience. You will respond with empathy, sensitivity, patience to complaints and enquiries lodged with the Office.

Key to this role will be your ability to influentially lead and promote a positive organisational culture that fosters and supports the mission of the Catholic Church and the Archdiocese.

The role is a full-time role and based in Leichhardt. Some travel within the Sydney metro area will be required.

About You

Your experience in the implementation of safeguarding policy and practices, and building collaborative relationships in a complex organisation, and in safeguarding vulnerable adults and children, or similar compliance role, are key to this role.

Specifically, as the ideal candidate for this role, you will meet the following Key Requirements:

  • A demonstrated commitment to the teachings and values of the Catholic Church.
  • Appropriate qualifications and experience working within Child Safe Organisations, Safeguarding and Child Protection with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar role
  • Professional and/or academic background in Social Work, Welfare, Education, Adult Education or equivalent qualification or related experience
  • In depth understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection requirements and mandates under NSW legislation
  • Management level experience operating in a highly regulated and risk laden welfare environment with the ability to work autonomously but with direction
  • Advanced PC skills with strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to develop a reputation as a trusted and reliable reference point.
