“Peter brings to this new role extensive executive leadership experience, a deep personal commitment to Catholic education and a strong understanding of the mission and communities of Brisbane Catholic Education,” Archbishop Mackinlay said in a statement.
Mr Hill is executive director of schools at Catholic Education Wollongong and a member of the Lumen Christi parish in Wollongong.
Archbishop Mackinlay said Mr Hill would be well-known to many people across BCE and had held many leadership positions across Catholic education and health from 2005 to present.
Before 2005, Mr Hill held various assistant principal and teaching positions in the Brisbane Archdiocese across diocesan and religious institute schools.
“His broad experience brings a deep appreciation for system leadership, mission, governance, people and culture, and the importance of strong partnerships between schools, parishes, families and communities,” Archbishop Mackinlay said.
Mr Hill holds two Masters degrees from Australian Catholic University as well as a Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
His appointment follows an extensive national recruitment process, chaired by vicar general Fr Peter Dillon, supported by BCE council chair Jenny Parker, Catholic Education Council member Sr Peta Goldburg and Catholic Education South Australia executive director Neil McGoran.
In welcoming Mr Hill, Archbishop Mackinlay again paid tribute to the late Sally Towns and the “outstanding, long-lasting impact” she made across BCE and the archdiocese.
“Sally’s leadership was marked by deep faith, courage, compassion and an unwavering commitment to Catholic education,” he said.
Archbishop Mackinlay also acknowledged Ross Tarlinton, who served as acting executive director since Dr Towns’ resignation.
“Ross stepped into the role during a challenging period for Brisbane Catholic Education and has provided exceptional leadership, stability and guidance,” he said.
Mr Hill begins as executive director on October 26.
