The day will include Masses at 8am, 10am, 1pm and 6pm, with pilgrims also invited to pray at St Mary MacKillop’s tomb, visit the Memorial Chapel, and enjoy free entry to the Mary MacKillop Museum, which marks the 160th anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of Saint Joseph by Mary MacKillop and Fr Julian Tenison Woods.
Sr Josephine Dubiel RSJ, congregational leader of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, said the feast will be a unique opportunity to honour Australia’s first saint at the place where she lived, died and was buried.
“The feast day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop is a special opportunity to gather in prayer, celebration and community, giving thanks for Mary’s life, faith and enduring legacy,” she said.
New features for 2026 include a holy hour for young adults aged 18–35 from 4.30pm before the evening Mass, and a feast day “Wonder and Reflection” zone offering creative activities for children and families.
The celebrations will be complemented by a nine-day online pilgrimage novena hosted by Mary MacKillop Place and the Mary MacKillop Spirituality Ministry in the lead-up to the feast.
