The Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Education Limited board has held its inaugural meeting, marking the dawn of a new journey in Catholic education in the archdiocese. Source: Catholic Voice.

This significant step paves the way for the incorporation of the Catholic Education mission.

“Today, we stand on the shoulders of giants — the visionary religious women and men, priests, and laypeople who not only dreamed of an education system but built it,” said Dr Patrick McArdle, the interim board chair.

“These trailblazers have laid down a rich legacy, which will officially be embraced on January 1, 2025.”

Highlighting a new direction, Canberra-Goulburn Archbishop Christopher Prowse said it is a “matter of paying out the nets in innovative ways, confident that the Holy Spirit will ensure a rich catch”.

In a statement earlier this year, Archbishop Prowse underscored the importance of the new governance structure in prioritising the mission of Catholic education while increasing lay participation.

“Our reviews of Church governance highlighted the need for greater transparency in both canonical and civil governance processes,” he noted.

“Many diocesan education bodies across Australia have transitioned to alternative governance models, and I am confident this is the path we need to follow.”
