Perth Archdiocese’s publication, The Record Magazine, has won the top prize at the 2024 Australasian Catholic Press Association awards, presented in Sydney this week.

The 32-page quarterly magazine, produced by the archdiocese’s communications office, received the Bishop Kennedy Award for Overall Excellence in a Catholic Publication.

The award judges said “the publication is enriched with faith-filled articles, offering an easy-to-navigate layout and a wealth of interesting topics”.

The magazine is the official publication of the Perth Archdiocese and The Record masthead is this year celebrating its 150th anniversary.

The Record Magazine is complemented by The eRecord, a weekly online news publication that is distributed to all 103 parishes and 114 schools across Perth, with an overall circulation of more than 25,000.

More than 50 Catholic media and communications professionals gathered for the annual awards night on Wednesday, which recognised excellence in Catholic media across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.

The ACPA awards were held in conjunction with the triennial Australian Catholic Communications Congress, hosted by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, and were presented by Bishop Delegate for Media, Archbishop Patrick O’Regan.

Other award winners included Tui Motu Magazine for Best Front Page (Print), Darwin Diocese’s online publication Yarning for Best Layout and Design and Jesuit Media’s Australian Catholics for Best Layout and Design Print.

The television ministry, Mass for You At Home, produced by Wollongong Diocese in partnership with the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, won the Best Use of Digital Media.

ACPA members also elected a new executive committee at the annual general meeting on Tuesday.

Jamie O’Brien (Perth Archdiocese) was elected ACPA president, from Neil Helmore (Townsville Diocese), who steps down after four years in the role. Mr O’Brien has served as ACPA treasurer for the past six years.

Fiona Basile (Melbourne-based freelancer) returns as vice-president, Australia and Annette Scullion (Wellington Archdiocese) was re-elected vice president, New Zealand.
