In a compelling interview on Common Home TV, Fr Ihor Kolisnyk speaks candidly about the realities of the war.
He discusses Ukraine’s historical experiences with diplomacy, the dangers of political fatigue among Western allies, and the profound impact of the war on the nation’s spiritual life.
The conversation also addresses the shifting political landscape, including statements from US President Donald Trump questioning the long-term financial commitment to Ukraine’s defence.
Fr Kolisnyk expresses concern that such rhetoric prioritises economic interests over the moral imperative of supporting a nation under siege.
“This does not sound like prioritising a just peace,” he states. “It sounds like prioritising cost-saving.”
Despite the challenges, he remains steadfast in his belief that the fight for Ukraine is a fight for justice.
“People think that hope is something for the weak,” he says. “But we see now, in the people fighting on the front lines, that hope is for the strong ones. Maybe that is why Christ gives hope.”
Matthew Howard, executive producer of Common Home TV, emphasised the significance of this conversation, highlighting the Redemptorist tradition of standing in solidarity with those who suffer.
“As a mission of the Redemptorists, we are proud to bring this interview, which continues the Redemptorist commitment to solidarity with those in need and the tradition of Redemptorist peacemaking.
“In times of war, faith must be a voice for justice, and Father Ihor’s testimony is a crucial part of that mission.”
