
The University of Notre Dame Australia has appointed Paul McClintock as the university’s eighth chancellor.
In a statement, Notre Dame said Mr McClintock “brings to the responsibilities of chancellor personal and professional attributes of the highest order, a distinguished record of leadership and service in both the public and private sectors as well as a deep commitment to the values and aspirations of our University”.
Mr McClintock has chaired a large and diverse range of organisations, including Icon Group, I-MED Australia, New South Wales Ports, the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia (CEDA), Myer, Thales Australia, Medibank Private and the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Reform Council.
For the past six years, Mr McClintock has served as chair of St Vincent’s Health Australia, where he was also a member of the Board of Directors for 12 years.
Mr McClintock also served as secretary to the Federal Cabinet and Head of the Cabinet Policy Unit from 2000 to 2003 and has been a director of Catholic Health Australia, the Health Insurance Commission and the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.
“The University warmly welcomes Mr McClintock to the position of Chancellor. His experience, integrity and commitment will be great assets for the University as it enters the next chapter of its growth and achievement,” the statement said.
Mr McClintock will take up his role with the University on January 1. He succeeds Chris Ellison, who has been chancellor since January 2018.
“We are very grateful to Chris for his sustained hard work over the past eight years as Chancellor and for the vital contribution he has made to the University through a period of extraordinary development,” the statement said.
