Thousands of Catholics across South Australia are gearing up to take part in a groundbreaking event that will help shape the outlook and agenda of the Adelaide Archdiocese for generations to come. Source: The Southern Cross.
In a first for the local Church, Dialogue Week – which runs from February 22 to 28 – will provide an opportunity for people from 56 parishes, 87 schools, migrant communities, Catholic agencies and affiliated groups to talk about the type of Church they would like to see in the future.
About 4000 parishioners and more than 50,000 Catholic school students are expected to take part in the key event leading into the Archdiocesan Synod sessions in May and June.
Sarah Moffatt, executive director, Pastoral Life and Mission at the archdiocese, described Dialogue Week as a series of meetings to hear what people from all corners of the Church think and to give them a voice in this year’s Adelaide Synod, taking place in May and June.
“It’s about people seeing themselves as part of the Archdiocese,” she said.
“The conversations might bring something new and prophetic and might be something that we haven’t considered.”
She said significant events would be a public forum at Norwood and an archdiocesan councils and commissions gathering at Glenelg, both of which will be attended by renowned theologian and author Dr Christina Kheng.
The five themes of the Synod – Formation for Mission and Leadership; Mission of Catholic Education and being Church together; Structures for Planning, Communion and Participation; Becoming Missionary Disciples: Communion in Grace: Sacrament to the World – will be debated across Dialogue Week groups.
Centacare and Vinnies are expected to host their own Dialogue Week group discussions.
