Anthony Albanese attended Mass at St Christopher’s Cathedral in Canberra on Sunday morning alongside his wife, Jodie Haydon.
In his Easter Sunday message to Australians, the Prime Minister said it was a “time of reflection and a time of joy” for Australian Christians.
“This Easter, Christians across Australia are uniting in contemplation of the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and in celebration of the grace at the heart of their faith,” he said.
Mr Albanese said he also hoped households were “catching up with family and friends” and “helping kids enjoy the fun of an Easter egg hunt in a backyard”.
“If you’re having a break this weekend, please drive safely, and if you’re working, thank you for all that you do,” he added.
Opposition Leader Angus Taylor celebrated Easter Sunday with his four adult children and close friends at a relaxed lunch and described it as a “warm, memorable day”.
“Easter was a really special chance to slow down and enjoy time with all four of my kids, sharing plenty of laughs and good conversation around the table,” he said.
In a social media post, Mr Taylor said Easter Sunday marked the resurrection of Jesus and symbolised “the conquering of life over death” and a “reminder that even from the darkest moment, renewal is possible”.
“If there’s an Easter message for all of us at a time of many national difficulties and much apprehension, it’s a message of hope,” he said.
