Mr Mullins’ Papal Knighthood was conferred by Brisbane Archbishop Shane Mackinlay at a Mass at St Stephen’s Chapel on Wednesday night, while Mr Daubney received his honour last week.
The award was presented to Dr Mullins by Emeritus Archbishop Mark Coleridge, who had appointed him archdiocesan chancellor in 2019.
Alongside Dr Mullins were his wife Justice Debra Mullins and his twin sister Anne Becker with her husband, Ian.
Archdiocesan general counsel Matthew Harman read the award citation, saying Dr Mullins had rendered “exemplary service to the Catholic Church over many decades, particularly through his contribution to ecclesial governance, canon law and lay leadership”.
The papal award makes Dr Mullins a knight of the Order of St Gregory the Great.
Last week, Archbishop Mackinlay conferred ACU chancellor Martin Daubney with his honour at a Mass at St Stephen’s Chapel.
Archbishop Coleridge presented the award to Mr Daubney at the ceremony, which included his wife Rosie and daughter Hannah as well as leaders from ACU, including vice-chancellor and president Professor Zlatko Skrbis and pro-chancellor Virginia Bourke.
Archbishop Mackinlay gave thanks during his homily to Mr Daubney’s “generous service” to the Church in Brisbane and Australia.
Pope Leo’s award makes Mr Daubney a member of the Order of the Knights of St Gregory the Great.
Ms Bourke read out the citation, saying Mr Daubney was awarded for “exemplary service to the Church, the law and the wider community over many decades, marked by integrity, intellectual distinction, personal faith and a deep commitment to justice and good governance”.
“Mr Daubney’s many years of faithful service, exercised with discretion, wisdom, and a strong sense of vocation and commitment to the common good, provide abundant grounds for acknowledging his conspicuous contribution to the Catholic Church and to public life in Australia.”
