The Josephite Laudato Si’ Action Plan team has released its third “conversation package” in the five-part Urgent Hope series, designed to initiate discussion on climate change and Pope Francis’ Laudate Deum encyclical. Source: Sisters of Saint Joseph.
Titled Climate Casualties, the community and educational resource has been developed by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart in collaboration with the Sisters of St Joseph Lochinvar.
Climate Casualties focuses on the direct effects of climate change on rising sea levels, as well as the increasing presence of microplastics and forever chemicals.
The climate crisis, as Pope Francis reminds us in Laudate Deum, not only “occurs on Earth’s surface alone but also several kilometres higher in the atmosphere, on the surface of the oceans, and even in their depths for hundreds of metres”.
The Climate Casualties Conversation Package includes many calls to action in support of Pope Francis’ desire for urgent change.
Laudate Deum states that “there are no lasting changes without cultural changes, without a maturing of lifestyles and convictions within societies, and there are no cultural changes without personal changes”.
The resource can be used individually or in groups with friends, family, students or colleagues.
Readers are encouraged to use the questions, videos and media resources within Climate Casualties, to spark discussion, share countering views, develop ideas and form ways to address climate change.
