Taking the number of Catholic school campuses in the state to 120, the school will cater for students from early years to Year 12.

Catholic Education SA executive director Neil McGoran said the school would meet the needs of the growing population in Walker Corporation’s Riverlea development and the surrounding regions, with construction of the school expected to start in 2025.

Located 25 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, it will be the first school for the master-planned community, which will eventually be home to more than 40,000 residents.

The state-of-the-art Catholic school will include an innovative multi-storey design; contemporary classrooms and facilities designed to support the school’s extensive curriculum and facilitate quality learning experiences; and an Early Learning Centre for children from 6 months – 5 years, plus Out of School Hours Care available to enrolled students.

The school will open at the start of the 2027 school year for students from Reception to Year 6 and will progressively grow to cater for all year levels. Stage 1 of the build is expected to cost more than $60 million, with about 1300 people expected to work on construction of the school.

“This new school development is part of our commitment to expanding Catholic Education pathways and building an even stronger focus on student learning and quality teaching,” Dr McGoran said.

Walker Corporation managing director/CEO David Gallant said the company was proud to partner with Catholic Education to bring the first school to Riverlea, giving thousands of families access to high quality education and the opportunity to stay at the same school from early learning, right through to high school.

“The new school is conveniently located in the heart of the first neighbourhoods we are building to ensure kids and parents only have a short walk from their front door to the school gates,” he said.

Riverlea resident Sonia Kandel said the school was an important part of her family’s decision to move to the area.

“It was really important to us when we chose to move to Riverlea that our son would have access to great education and amenities close to home, so it’s exciting knowing that when he’s ready to go to school, he can be at the same one from beginning to end with his friends from the area,” she said.
