The Minister for Health and Women, Shannon Fentiman, introduced the “Termination of Pregnancy Action Plan 2032” in March with the goal to ensure “Queensland women and pregnant people can access information and termination of pregnancy care that meets their needs”.

The plan focuses on training abortion practitioners and funding services with an emphasis on regional Queensland.

Over the next five years, the plan allocates more than $20 million to enhance the abortion industry workforce, $9 million to establish contemporary models of care, and $8 million to non-governmental organisations.

Cherish Life executive officer Matthew Cliff labelled the Government’s decision as “an assault on the values and beliefs of countless Queenslanders”.

He said the plan failed Queenslanders on all fronts.

“One must ask, why is there no investment in independent counselling, a service that 88 per cent of Queenslanders already support?” he said.

The Government’s plan also lists developing “information to help clinicians understand their obligations about conscientious objection” as a priority action.

Mr Cliff said this was a “chilling move” that signalled the Governments’ intent to challenge Queensland doctors, nurses and midwives that have legitimate conscientious objections to abortion.

He also highlighted how Children by Choice, a Brisbane based pro-abortion group, had been awarded an $8 million funding boost by the Miles Government.

“Queenslanders need to be aware, this plan is not just to promote policy; it’s an assault on the values and beliefs of countless Queenslanders, driven by the current Labor Government and Health Minister who shows a blatant disregard for the lives of the unborn,” Mr Cliff said.
