Bishop Norton celebrated the Mass with Brisbane vicar general Fr Peter Dillon and many more clergy concelebrating.

In his remarks at the morning tea, Brisbane Archbishop Mark Coleridge said he and all of Brisbane had learned from Bishop Norton more about how to be a Church and a missionary Church.

He said Bishop Norton had been a gift not only to the Archdiocese of Brisbane, but the community beyond and the Australian bishops conference.

He said he had been such a creative presence for Brisbane and as pleased as he was to have him in Brisbane, “I was also one of those who led the charge on his appointment to Broome”.

Archbishop Coleridge said he had seen how much a bishop was needed in Broome.

“I could see no one other than Tim Norton who should be appointed Bishop of Broome,” he said.

Archbishop Coleridge ordained Bishop Norton to the episcopate on February 22, 2022.

“I said in my episcopal ordination here, that I came to learn from you – and I have,” Bishop Norton said in his remarks.

“I learned how to be a leader with you and how to be a bishop with you.

“You have been very gracious in teaching me.”

Pope Francis appointed Bishop Norton as Bishop of Broome on October 14.

He will be installed in an outdoor Mass at St Mary’s College, Broome, on Wednesday.
