Cardinal Mykola Bychok will deliver the event’s opening address (CSSA)

“Hope in Action” is the theme for the Catholic Social Services Australia National Conference, to be held in Sydney, March 19-20.

The theme draws inspiration from the Jubilee 2025’s Pilgrims of Hope, echoing Pope Francis’ call for peace, respect the dignity of life, and support for the marginalised.

Cardinal Mykola Bychok will deliver the opening address at the conference.

“I am honoured to attend the CSSA National Conference and deliver the opening address on this pivotal theme of peace and truth,” Cardinal Bychok said.

“At a time when many people around the world are suffering from wars and yearning for peace, it is our task not to be indifferent to the suffering of others and to act swiftly to help the most vulnerable.

“The Jubilee Year of 2025, Pilgrims of Hope, reminds us that as we walk this pilgrimage with Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life, we must not only bring hope for a just peace to those in need but also share the truth about their suffering with others, ensuring that the enemy’s false information does not find a place in people’s hearts.”

CSSA executive director Jerry Nockles said the conference theme aligned with the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference’s Social Justice Statement for 2024-25, “Truth and Peace: A Gospel Word in a Violent World”, which said genuine peace is built on a foundation of truth.

“We recognise that justice is incomplete without truth,” Dr Nockles said.

“The CSSA conference will also shed light on pressing social issues, including poverty and homelessness, as we strive for the dignity, equality, and participation of all.”

CSSA members earlybird tickets are available until 31 January.
