The initiative, unveiled by Archbishop Christopher Prowse, comes in the wake of last year’s Archdiocesan Assembly, which brought together voices across the local Church to discern priorities for the future.

Describing the assembly as a “celebration of the foundational nature of our shared baptism,” Archbishop Prowse highlighted the value of listening to the Holy Spirit and one another.

From the assembly, several areas emerged for the archdiocese’s focus in the coming years, including renewal, developing a culture of invitation, reaffirming tradition, especially through the sacraments, prioritising personal encounter with Jesus, and fostering formation for mission in the Church.

To realise these priorities, Archbishop Prowse announced two key pathways.

“Firstly, through assemblies in every parish by Pentecost 2026,” he said, “and secondly, by providing timely and targeted assistance to parishes through a team focused on delivering the assembly outcomes in parishes.”

The newly formed Synodal Evangelisation Team is set to support parishes in embedding synodality and community renewal.

The team will play a practical role in helping parishes prepare for their local assemblies.

It will lay the groundwork for a second Archdiocesan Assembly set for the latter half of 2026.

Huw Warmenhoven will lead the team, which includes parish animator Chloe Kelly, discipleship and youth animator Christopher Gilroy, and liturgy and Christian Unity animator Christian Nobleza.

“Our mission is to discern what seems good to us and the Holy Spirit together,” Mr Warmenhoven said.

Ms Kelly said her focus would be helping parishes “embed and practice a culture of synodality in their local communities.”

Mr Gilroy expressed hopes that every parish would become “a space where young people encounter Christ and are empowered for mission.”

Mr Nobleza, who will focus on liturgy and Christian Unity, said he hopes to “help our parishes imagine what could engaging liturgy look like… faithful to our tradition but that speaks to this generation.”
