Sabrina Hughes (Mazenod College)

Mazenod College in Lesmurdie, Western Australia, has appointed Sabrina Hughes as its new principal from 2026, making her the first woman to be appointed to the role in the school’s almost 60-year history.

Mazenod College is a Catholic boys’ day and boarding school serving students and families within an Oblate Catholic tradition since 1966.

“Our Australian Province values greatly the Oblate Mission at Mazenod College, which serves both our day boy families as well as our boarding families,” Oblate provincial Fr Andrew Chen OMI said.

“I look forward to Sabrina leading our commitment to educating boys in the Oblate Catholic tradition in Lesmurdie and am very confident that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the college will continue to go from strength to strength under her leadership.”

Ms Hughes said she was “honoured honoured to lead Mazenod College into its next chapter, especially as it approaches its 60th anniversary, with deep faith, wisdom and joy”.

“I see in Mazenod College a vibrant community that dares to aspire, to serve, and to form young men who, through their God-given dignity, not only succeed in the world but transform it,” she said. I am honoured to lead Mazenod College into its next chapter, especially as it approaches its 60th anniversary, with deep faith, wisdom and joy.”

Ms Hughes joins Mazenod College with a long and distinguished career in Catholic education. She has held senior leadership positions for over 16 years. She is currently the vice principal at Trinity College in East Perth, a position she has held since 2020.
